Best-selling Klutz books!
In April 2011, we began carrying the fun, creative, educational, wacky, fascinating, old-fashioned, hands-on books produced by Klutz Press. These books and kits combine the best of games, crafts, science projects, art, and hands-on learning, with an instruction manual that is easy and fun to read. Since Klutz offers a great way for families to spend time together, doing old-fashioned, non-electronic activities, we began sponsoring a "Klutz Night" once a month at the bookstore.
Kids AND adults have been invited to Klutz night, a two-hour event where each person (or family group) buys one Klutz kit of their choices. Prices range from $7.95 to $22.95, with many kits averaging around $14.95. Membership discounts and store credit gladly applied to this purchase! During the Klutz event, each person may enjoy our help building, creating, playing, sketching, gluing, demonstrating, and figuring out their Klutz activity. Most kits come with plenty of materials, so there should be more than enough to share, so participants can try more than one kit. Favorites this summer included Body Crayons, Paper Stained Glass, Capsters, Sticker Design Studio, Pick-up Sticks, Shrinky Dinks, Invasion of the Bristlebots, and Glossy Band Bracelets.
While children under age 10 should probably be accompanied by an adult or older sibling, adults do not need to be acccompanied by kids! Many of these kits are the perfect chance to learn a new craft or play an old favorite game in a low-pressure environment! Our adults have enjoyed kits that teach the person how to knit, how to crochet, how to make elaborate bracelets out of safety pins and beads, try the same techniques that have created museum masterpieces representing centuries of art history, learn watercolor painting.
Klutz Night was held monthly, from May through October, and will begin again after the holiday season. Check our calendar of events for upcoming times & dates!
