Still supporting us with the Kindle Fire
Regarding the "Kindle Fire": mid-January 2012 update:
Recent sources say that "jailbreaking" your Kindle Fire and/or your Nook CAN ruin your device, causing it to lock up completely. IF you are a tech-minded person who knows what you are doing, you may enjoy working with some of the information below.... and you probably actually know a lot of it already.
If you're just curious about what's going on behind the scenes with the technology wars amongst the Kindle, Google, the Nook, Android systems, and more, read on, but don't necessarily experiment unless you know what you're doing.
And remember, just because you have some kind of Amazon equipment, doesn't mean you can't support your favorite indies using another device or method. Then again, there's always good old-fashioned paper BOOKS.

(Jan. 2, 2012) For all of you who couldn't resist ripping off Amazon in order to get a notepad computer at ereader prices, or for those who of you who were gifted the Kindle Fire for Christmas, here's how you can use your device from the Dread Pirate Amazon to still support your favorite indie bookstore! :-)
With earlier models of the Kindle, we could not sell you ebooks from our website. That remains true at this time.
However, the Kindle Fire is based on Google's Android operating system, AND IndieCommerce worked with Bluefire Productions software company to develop the IndieBound Reader app for Android devices.
Therefore, it is possible to run the IndieBound Reader app on the Kindle Fire through a process called "sideloading." Sideloading refers to the practice of installing apps WITHOUT going through the OFFICIAL app store on a device.
There are already some great references online, taking you through the process of sideloading things onto the Kindle Fire.
Here's a good one from Liliputing, which is very thorough: http://liliputing.com/2011/11/how-to-sideload-apps-even-the-android-market-on-the-amazon-kindle-fire.html
And here's one on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tE4dAmZGe0I
Lastly, here's a link so you can download an edition of the IndieBound Reader for your Android-operating system gadget, whatever it may be:
